SLAFB is currently seeking a Volunteer Center Manager whose primary purpose is to manage volunteer center activities efficiently and in a manner that ensures a positive experience for volunteer groups. Responsibilities include repackaging of donated and government food for distribution to member agencies. The ideal candidate will have previous experience coordinating volunteer activities and operating standard warehouse equipment. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct volunteer orientation, educate the community and ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for volunteers.
  • Oversee the VC employees and volunteer groups to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ensure the storage and rotation of product in an efficient, organized and safe manner.
  • Manage supply budget and ensure the ordering and stocking of boxes, tape and shrink wrap.
  • Ensure product repackaging so items can be distributed.      
  • Coordinate product repacking at special off-site events.
  • Work with Inventory Coordinator to ensure inventory levels of CSFP commodities are within the required levels mandated by state agencies.
  • Coordinate monthly physical inventory of CSFP products and reconcile inventory in tandem with the Inventory Coordinator.
  • Responsible for all CERES driven reporting and daily inventory maintenance.
  • Monitor and minimize spoilage and damage of CSFP commodities.
  • Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts.
  • Responsible for following policies and procedures related to food safety, handling of all food recalls and equipment safety.
  • Support the Safety Committee and ensure safe workplace policies.
  • Work with the Warehouse Manager and Facilities Manager to ensure the Volunteer Center stays in compliance with AIB and Feeding America standards.
  • Update and maintain formal operational and food safety procedures for both VC employees and volunteer groups.
  • Serve as a culture champion and develop staff to positions of increased responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Associates degree from an accredited university or technical college required. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 2-5 years previous warehouse experience. Prior experience operating standard warehouse equipment strongly preferred. Ability to learn to operate pallet jacks and forklifts required. Previous supervisory experience a plus.

  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, and other web-based applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while acting tactically.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, ability to handle interruptions, maintains focus on tasks and produce accurate work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have reliable transportation with proof of insurance and be willing to travel to special events.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.

Work is performed in warehouse with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. Workspace could be very dusty, and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building. Periodically may work outside and be exposed to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Work involves standing for extended period of times and moving boxes. Employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 40 pounds.  

This position may require evenings and weekends due to special events and other projects related to timely and accurate warehousing and distribution of product. May travel overnight to attend meetings.
