The Mission of the St. Louis Area Foodbank is to build stronger communities by empowering people with food and hope. As the region's largest food distribution charity dedicated to feeding those in need, we are working to create a stronger, healthier bi-state region where no one goes to be hungry. The Summer VISTA Mobile and Summer Family Food Program (SFFP) will assist with food distributions throughout our 26-county region. These Mobile distributions help combat barriers that individuals and families may face when trying to get access to fresh, seasonal, and nutritious foods in both Urban and Rural areas. In a month, we serve roughly 6,125 households through the 90+ mobile markets we deliver directly to Partner Agencies and Program Partners and roughly 721 families each month through the four Food Fairs we host. The Foodbank is also piloting a Summer Family Food program that will distribute meal kits, fresh produce and snack items to 3 sites in the Metro area over 8 -10 weeks. We anticipate reaching 450 families a week throughout the program. VISTA would perform direct client service by attending and assisting at distributions, performing data collection and reporting, and assist in recruiting partners and organizing the logistics for each event.

This position requires someone who:

AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate (SA) members:

• Members serve will be paid $479 bi-weekly, which means they will earn around $1,916 for their 8-week commitment.
• Summer Associates may perform direct service activities in addition to capacity-building activities.
• After successfully completing a term of service, Summer Associates may receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,311.11 which can be used to pay for college or student loans, or an end-of-service cash stipend of $276.64.
• Term of service estimate to be 06/01/20-07/26/20. Negotiable but must serve a full 8 weeks.
• Due to the short length of this service, Summer Associates are not provided any personal or medical leave.

Goal of the Project:

The goal of the St. Louis Area Foodbank VISTA Program is help combat barriers that individuals and families may face in gaining access to fresh, seasonal, and nutritious foods in both Urban and Rural areas.

Member Activities:

1. Attend Mobile and SFFP distributions to assist with distributions and data collection.
2. Make follow-up phone calls to mobile participants and survey families at SFFP sites. Compile data and make recommendations.
3. Assist in recruiting partners and organizing the logistics for each event.
