General Description/Position Summary

Responsible for developing and executing annual and long-range fundraising plans to achieve the organization's strategic goals. As the strategist for philanthropy and marketing, this position oversees all aspects of fundraising including but not limited to; major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, planned giving, direct mail campaigns, newsletters, annual reports, special events, web-based giving, and other community-based fundraising activities. This position also directs and oversees the creation of a comprehensive marketing strategy that aligns with the strategic direction of the St Louis Area Foodbank. This position owns the budgeting and strategic planning process for both the Philanthropy and Marketing Departments, maintaining a focus on coaching, training and mentoring to develop the next generation of Philanthropy and Marketing leaders.  

 Duties and Responsibilities

    • Design and implement a long-term, broad-based philanthropic giving and marketing strategy that maximizes impact in support of the mission of the St Louis Area Foodbank, while contributing to the financial health, public awareness/support and longevity of the organization
    • Develop the case, build the strategy and execute a comprehensive plan and compelling vision to expand the network of individuals, foundations and corporations who support the mandate of the St Louis Area Foodbank through general support including restricted and unrestricted giving
    • Create a compelling vision to drive more support that advances the organization's strategic goals
    • Lead the marketing team in creating a compelling, coherent, organizationally supported and understood case for support that aligns with our organizations' objectives
    • Establish goals and create strategy for meeting marketing deliverables and metrics aligned with the organizations' strategic direction
    • Work with marketing director to establish team and individual goals/metrics
    • Effectively communicate and interact with staff and other departments to ensure a thorough understanding of the organization's financial/capital and marketing opportunities, strategy, and course of action
  • Recruit, train and develop a focused, innovative team of professionals - responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; professional development; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Maintain and enhance current successful initiatives and create new resource streams and initiatives to adapt to the changing landscape of both philanthropic giving and marketing
  • Manage State Tax Credits and process gifts of appreciated securities to aid in growing positive relationships with major gift donors.
  • Conduct analytics on fundraising and marketing data to analyze trends, identify opportunities and disruptions to strategy, and adjust when necessary to ensure optimization of resources
  • Lead the planning, identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donor groups and prospects ensuring relationships are prioritized and donors feel appreciated
  • Research, devise and oversee systems, policies and procedures to track, cultivate and maintain all fundraising activities across the organization

 

    • Assist the Director of Philanthropy with establishing team and individual goals/metrics for fundraising
    • Continually monitor and evaluate the department and staff, providing guidance, coaching and discipline when necessary to hold team members accountable for meeting expectations of the organization. Culture champion who models our core values.
  • Work with members of the SLAFB team to secure cross-departmental support and ensure that goals reflect, align and contribute to the broader goals of the organization

 

    • Lead Board of Directors sub-committee on Philanthropy and Marketing facilitates strategic thinking around our goals and objectives while bringing in diverse community perspectives to proactively solve for disruptions while facilitating innovations.
    • Devise and implement strategies for Board engagement that foster increased Board giving
  • Represent St Louis Area Foodbank at external events and media opportunities to share our story and cultivate support
  • Other duties as assigned

 

  Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of experience in non-profit fundraising, with at least 3 years of major donor fundraising
  • A proven track record of crafting strategies and successfully raising general support/unrestricted funds, and thrives on expanding networks and advocating for mission-driven programs
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with emphasis in marketing, communications, business or nonprofit administration
  • Ability to plan, set goals, monitor progress and evaluate results while working collaboratively as part of a team in a flexible, dynamic environment
  • Proven reputation for integrity and professionalism. Strategic thinker with a proven track record of driving results.
  • Enthusiasm for the power of media and information technologies a big plus
  • Excellent communication, management and interpersonal skills. Strong relationship building and managerial experience required.
  • Strong performance management and evaluation capabilities including willingness and experience in ensuring team accountabilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Experience in managing a diverse group of donors and volunteers, projects and workload
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening

 Special events and other projects related to meeting the annual fund goal may require evening and / or weekend work. Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
