General Description/Position Summary

 

Over 400,000 people throughout the 26 counties served by the St. Louis Area Foodbank struggle with food insecurity due to underemployment, stagnant wages, and rising cost of living. The Programs Manager is responsible for leading the development and growth of successful innovative programming that align with the strategic objectives and mission of the organization while meeting clients where they are. Responsibilities include program development, management and assessment including support toward planning, goal setting, staffing, initiating, leading and overseeing program activities and outcomes. This position requires both tactical and strategic leadership and is focused on staff coaching, training and mentoring to develop the next generation of Programs leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership, direction and oversight for St. Louis Area Foodbank programs to include: Advocacy and Outreach, Mobiles (mobile markets and food fairs), Youth (Breakfast beyond the Bell, Higher Education, School Markets and Wellness Hubs), AmeriCorps VISTA, Transitional Housing, and Disaster Planning and Relief.
  • Build and grow innovative programs that empower people in the bi-state region.
  • Partner with other SLAFB functions to provide superior services, ensures each program partner receives excellent customer service, encouragement and support in order to increase the overall capacity of the network to distribute more food to more people in a safe and timely manner that best meets the needs of the client
  • Devise and direct programmatic specifications and strategies including goals, measurements and desired outcomes. Creates tools to measure efficacy and impact, generate reports and uses data gathered to recommend evolutions.
  • Evaluate and document programs; Discover methods to enhance program efficiency and productivity, monitor trends using data and seek new and innovative ideas to expand programmatic collaborations and outcomes.
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies
  • Ensure collaboration through partner agencies and programs to ensure alignment.
  • Works closely with Operations to ensure program models are resourced appropriately
  • Represent SLAFB in the community at events and through networking, public relations and speaking engagements and participate in Feeding America work groups, etc. to improve programs nationally and locally
  • Assist with budget process and ensures budgets and appropriate grant guidelines are adhered to throughout fiscal year.
  • Manage AmeriCorps VISTA program and members.
  • Select, develop and manage program staff and incorporate volunteers into program models.
  • Continually monitors and evaluates the department and staff, providing guidance, coaching and discipline when necessary to hold team members accountable for meeting expectations of the organization. Culture champion who models our core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required; Master's degree and or coursework in program management/evaluation is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with program management with experience creating, launching, and assessing programs in a non-profit environment required.
  • Two to five years' experience managing and developing staff to positions of increased responsibility required

  • Superior problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Strong sense of business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, reporting and budgeting.
  • Proficient with MS office suite and web-based applications.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening.

Special events and other projects related to this position may require evening and / or weekend work. Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
