GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Product Acquisition Intern is a volunteer leader who supports St. Louis Area Foodbank's Product Acquisition department. The Product Acquisition Intern will enhance our ability to provide systematical support for the department related to purchasing and donation activities. The Product Acquisition Intern will interface with department leads and Foodbank staff. The intern may also work with other strategic direction initiatives (Food Drives & Retail Program) that the SLAFB is spearheading for growth and success.

St. Louis Area Foodbank

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Product Acquisition staff members to enter donation and purchase orders into Foodbank's ordering system.
  • Create Manufacturer Product Item Cards for department.
  • Assist Product Acquisition director with building purchasing price sheets and analyzing freight costs.
  • Assist with managing donors and purchase vendors on open weekly deliveries.
  • Assist department with activities correlating with the food donor recognition program (Thank you E-mails, Thank you Letters, Social Media content)
  • Data entry into databases and Microsoft applications.
  • Assist with creating department in-bound delivery reports.
  • Organize files for the department.

In Order to gain a full understanding of the Food Bank and our scope of work, Product Acquisition Intern may participate in a variety of program areas including, but not limited to:

  • Food On The Move, Food Fairs and Mobile Food Pantry.
  • Volunteer Center
  • Community Food Drives
  • Food Collection Events
  • Ride with a driver for food distribution.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited college or university.
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities
  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other web-based applications
  • Broad understanding of evaluation, programs, and logic models.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Passion for the Foodbank mission and the ability to demonstrate SLAFB's Core Values: Stewardship, Teamwork, Agility and Respect
  • Preferred Availability: Weekdays (M-F) shift ending by 3PM with the flexibility to work an occasional night and/or weekend Food Drive event.

  • There is a chance the intern would be required to lift 25 lbs.

TIME REQUIREMENTS

There is flexibility with this internship, and as an expectation, the Product Acquisition Intern will work with his/her supervisor to determine a schedule and hours to fulfill academic requirements or personal experience. This is subject to change if an individual need to increase or decrease total hours of internship. As schedules are made and set, community and internal events for the intern to attend will be scheduled.

  • In depth understanding of how the supply chain system works for purchased items and donated items at the food bank.
  • Strong grasp of the how the Product Acquisition department at the food bank impacts community hunger relief.
  • Opportunity to build or strengthen groups facilitation and leadership skills.
  • Gain skills and knowledge in purchase order management and vendor relationship building.
