General Description/Position Summary:

The primary purpose of the Part-time Temporary Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach Coordinator is to increase the number of SNAP applications completed by the Foodbank. To achieve this, the coordinator will assist in completing SNAP applications with clients and grow awareness of our SNAP program. In addition, responsibilities include collaborating with Feeding America, Feeding Illinois, Feeding Missouri, and our state level partners to ensure our applications are accepted and approved. The coordinator will also investigate and implement improvements to provide holistic support to our clients. This is a part-time, grant funded, temporary position for 30 hours a week from May 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022 which will include both in person and over the phone outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with completing SNAP applications and answer questions regarding the approval process. Provide follow-up and referral services with SNAP applicants as needed. Serve as the SNAP advocate between the foodbank and SNAP applicants.
  • Input SNAP applications in the database and submit to appropriate state offices.
  • Manage and follow up with all applicants who complete a digital referral from our website or Google SNAP.
  • Assist with program development by staying abreast of changing processes, new referral opportunities and implementing ways to provide more holistic support to those managing the social service landscape. including non-traditional sites for SNAP outreach.
  • Organize in person and virtual outreach events to raise SNAP awareness and increase participation.
  • Work cross functionally to incorporate SNAP outreach into other programs such as mobile distributions, school markets, healthcare partnerships and Food on the Move.
  • Monitor and track program data and create reports for partners and internal staff. Provide information to internal team members for grant reporting and story collection.
  • In conjunction with our advocacy team, keep abreast of local, state, and national policies, procedures and changes related to SNAP and other benefits. Share relevant information with partners and the community.
  • Travel within local service territory to attend outreach activities and meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree seeking in Non-profit Administration, Public Health or another social services-related field preferred.
  • Experience working with programs that serve those of varying socio-economic backgrounds strongly preferred. Prior experience working in case management or with SNAP a plus.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills including empathy and compassion for the clients we serve.
  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, and other web-based applications.
  • Ability to think strategically while acting tactically.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills. Ability to generate new ideas and think critically about the best ways to implement them.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and handle interruptions while maintaining focus on tasks and produce accurate work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Must have reliable transportation with proof of insurance and be willing to travel within our 26-county service territory.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.

This position requires standing for extended periods of time, both in and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Special events and other projects related to this position may require evening and/or weekend work. Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
