SLAFB is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to effectively run inventory and warehouse operations. Responsibilities include inventory management, workplace safety and promoting a positive team culture that aligns with the vision, mission and core values of the foodbank. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who is computer savvy and has the ability to foster strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Inventory and Food Safety Management: 

  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with operational departments to ensure a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of inventory movement. (receiving, distribution, internal transfers, etc.)
  • Maintain the St. Louis Area Foodbank's product inventories at a high degree of accuracy with comprehensive understanding of the inventory database.
  • Enforce sanitation policies related to inventory.
  • Develop and maintain quality control checks and balances for all inventory data entered in NAV.
  • Partner with departments, providing support and feedback on new and existing programs.
  • Serve as the Food Defense Coordinator, Recall Coordinator, and Safe Food Handler Manager; conduct ongoing food safety training for warehouse staff.
  • Monitor and maintain product control.
  • Routinely test and monitor inventory controls and food safety for effectiveness and accuracy.
  • Maintain Inventory and food safety records, producing accurate reports during audits and as needed.
  • Research and resolve inventory discrepancies by identifying causes and collaborating on outcomes; make recommendations for improvement.

Warehouse Management and Safety: 

  • Monitor warehouse supplies budget; ensure the ordering and stocking of supplies.
  • Develop, supervise, and maintain an orderly process for receiving all products.
  • Conduct ongoing safety training, forklift training, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain daily equipment maintenance records.
  • Assign daily orders for processing, ensuring accuracy during fulfillment; monitor staffing needs based on workload and schedules.
  • Effectively manage warehouse team to ensure standard operating procedures are met; Coach and counsel employees including conducting annual reviews and creating meaningful career development plans.
  • Conduct daily roll call among warehouse staff. Meetings should include a stretching routine to promote employee safety and daily planning. Lead and communicate goals, team objectives and priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Associated degree in a related field a plus.
  • 5+ years' experience in inventory control environment required.
  • Prior supervisory experience with a proven track of effectively managing a team of 2 or more employees.
  • Excellent conflict management skills.
  • Skilled in the operation of standard warehouse equipment including forklift and palette riders required; Experience with safety standards and OSHA requirements a plus.
  • Computer proficient with solid MS Office Suite skills, Intermediate Excel skills strongly preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with detail, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.

Working Conditions

Work performed in warehouse involves a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter very cold.  Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature.  Workspace could be very dusty, and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building.  Periodically there may be work outside and be exposed to the elements.  Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product.  Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds.  Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

May work evenings and weekends due to special events and other projects related to timely and accurate warehousing and distribution of product. May travel overnight to attend meetings.
