General Description

The St. Louis Area Foodbank is adding a Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations to our dynamic Philanthropy team. This position is responsible for developing and sustaining a vibrant portfolio of funder relationships driven by outstanding grant writing, cause marketing, special events and other partnership activities. The ideal candidate will be energetic, ambitious, goal-oriented and creative, with a successful track record for building strong and productive relationships across corporate and foundation constituencies.

Position Summary

 

This position is responsible for growing community support for Foodbank programs and services through corporate, business, and foundation partnerships. With the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, s/he will be responsible for increasing corporate and foundation giving to support our collective fundraising goal. Position submits timely, well-written fundraising proposals, builds relationships through cause marketing ventures, and leads special event fundraising efforts. S/he must effectively utilize data to locate and engage donors, motivate staff performance and improve existing donor relationships. Candidate must be an organized, critical thinker with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes while effectively producing quality work within tight time constraints. Work involves providing effective donor management from identification to cultivation, asking, closing, and stewardship. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 Foundation Grant Writing and Corporate Campaign Development:

  • Maintain comprehensive understanding of Foodbank programs
    • Effectively communicate and interact with other departments to ensure a thorough understanding of needs both from an organizational and community perspective
    • Use knowledge and data analytics to build successful fundraising opportunities and develop partnerships including, but not limited to grant applications and subsequent follow-up reports, special event sponsorships, cause-marketing campaigns, corporate peer-to-peer campaigns
  • Lead prospecting, writing, editing, and reporting on grants
    • Exhibit strong expository writing skills and command of sentence structure, grammar and spelling
    • Ability to listen and build strong, compelling narratives
    • Develop and cultivate partnerships with corporations and local businesses to raise support through programmatic sponsorships, events, and/or formal grant processes
    • Compose program appropriate budgets
      • Work closely with Finance Department to ensure budget detail accuracy
      • Work closely with all departments (facilities, operations, partner agency services, product sourcing, programs, etc.) to build accurate grant narratives to quantify and qualify impact expectations and outcomes
    • Corporate Sponsorships and Cause Marketing Campaigns
      • Lead efforts in the development and management of strategies for corporate sponsorship solicitations as assigned
      • Work with team to grow existing cause marketing campaigns and target new prospects

 

Cultivation and Stewardship:

  • Develop, manage and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for corporate sponsorships, including proposals and negotiations of marketing agreements
  • Research and pursue government and local corporate and foundation grant-makers for additional funding opportunities
    • Routinely perform web-based searches using various search engines
    • Analyze grant makers to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs
  • Accurately project, track and communicate fundraising progress towards budget goals
  • Devise, maintain and implement schedule for fundraising campaign renewals, proposals, grant applications reports, event sponsorships, and donor relationship building
    • Supply program appropriate progress reports as required by grant maker
    • Generate accurate & timely proposals, reports, and acknowledgements

 Managerial:

  • Supervise Grant Writer and Community Relations Coordinator
    • Establish annual goals and implement strategies to achieve
    • Provide coaching and developmental feedback that helps staff exceed organizational goals and grow both personally and professionally

 Other Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage internal stakeholders to pursue funding prospects that align with organizational priorities
  • Become knowledgeable about Feeding America initiatives and studies, including participation in trainings to gain knowledge of peer food banks and Feeding America network expectations concerning grant submissions and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned; including, but not limited to
    • Provide content to Marketing Department for various collateral and social media articles
    • Attend relevant meetings that help strengthen the Foodbank's visibility in the community

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least four (4) years of demonstrated success in institutional fundraising, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and foundation donors
  • 1-2 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Successful track record in initiating and building relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors
  • Prior budget responsibility experience    
  • Solid understanding of fund development principles & ethics
  • Demonstrated ability to grow special event and cause marketing campaign revenue
  • Excellent computer skills solid knowledge of Microsoft Office  
  • Strong verbal and written (analytical and expository) communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills ability to handle interruptions, meet deadlines, maintain focus on tasks, produce accurate work and manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Ability to generate and understand work-related reports using company software
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check

 

Special events and other projects related to this position may require evening and / or weekend work. Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
