Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations

The St. Louis Area Foodbank is seeking a dynamic Senior Grant Writer who will be responsible for developing and sustaining a vibrant portfolio of funder relationships driven by outstanding grant writing, cause marketing, and other partnership activities. A successful candidate will possess a track record of repeated success in seeing a concept through the entire life cycle of the fundraising process, including concept formation, proposal writing, donor identification and cultivation, and partnership management.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for growing community support for Foodbank programs and services through corporate, business, and foundation partnerships. Working with a team, s/he will be responsible for increasing corporate and foundation giving above $2.5 million from existing and new sources while supporting our collective fundraising goal. Position submits timely, well-researched, well-written and well-documented fundraising proposals; builds relationships through cause marketing ventures; leads special event fundraising efforts. Effectively utilizes data to locate and appropriately engage donors, motivate staff performance and improve existing donor relationships. Candidate must be an organized, critical thinker with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes and can effectively produce quality work within tight time constraints. Work involves providing leadership to corporate/foundation funders, facilitating tours, and public speaking events.

Duties and Responsibilities

Foundation Grant Writing and Corporate Campaign Development:

  • Maintain comprehensive understanding of Foodbank programs
    • Effectively communicate and interact with other departments to ensure a thorough understanding of needs both from an organizational and community perspective
    • Use knowledge and data analytics to build successful fundraising opportunities and develop partnerships including, but not limited to grant applications and subsequent follow-up reports, special event sponsorships, cause-marketing campaigns, corporate peer-to-peer campaigns
  • Lead prospecting, writing, editing, and reporting on grants
    • Exhibit strong expository writing skills and command of sentence structure, grammar and spelling
    • Ability to listen and build strong, compelling narrativesCompose program appropriate budgets
      • Work closely with Finance Department to ensure budget detail accuracy
      • Work closely with all departments (programs, operations, facilities, product sourcing, agency relations, etc) to build accurate grant narratives to quantify and qualify impact and outcomes

Cultivation and Stewardship:

  • Research and pursue (when appropriate) government and local corporate and foundation grant-makers for additional funding opportunities.
    • Routinely perform web-based searches using various search engines
    • Analyze grant makers to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs
  • Accurately project, track and communicate fundraising progress towards budget goals
  • Devise, maintain and implement schedule for fundraising campaign renewals, proposals, grant applications reports, and donor relationship building
    • Supply program appropriate progress reports when required by grant maker
    • Generate accurate & timely proposals, reports, and acknowledgements

Managerial:

  • Supervise Grant Writer and Community Relations Coordinato
    • Establish annual goals and implement strategies to achieve
    • Provide coaching and developmental feedback that helps staff exceed organizational goals and grow both personally and professionally

Other Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Actively engage internal stakeholders to pursue funding prospects that align with organizational priorities
  • Become knowledgeable about Feeding America initiatives and studies, including participation on trainings to gain knowledge of peer food banks, Feeding America network expectations concerning grant submissions and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned; including, but not limited to
    • Provide content to Communications Department for various collateral and social media articles
    • Attend relevant meetings that help strengthen the Foodbank's visibility in the community
    • Assist with data entry of donor gifts when needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with an emphasis in communication, business or nonprofit administration
  • 4+ years of experience in grant writing with the ability to create compelling narratives and evidence of growth and outcomes
  • Strong experience with government grant writing is preferred
  • Prior budget responsibility experience    
  • Solid understanding of fund development principles & ethics
  • Excellent computer skills solid knowledge of Microsoft Office  
  • Strong verbal and written (analytical and expository) communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills ability to handle interruptions, meet deadlines, maintain focus on tasks, produce accurate work and manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Ability to generate and understand work-related reports using company software
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background checkSpecial events and other projects related to this position may require evening and / or weekend work. Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
