JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Inventory Control Specialist

Immediate Supervisor: Inventory Control Manager

Employees Supervised: None

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Description/Position Summary:

The Inventory Control Specialist will partner with the Inventory Control Manager and warehouse administration to maintain the St. Louis Area Foodbank's product inventories at a high degree of accuracy. This will be done by using a scheduled cycle count process as well as inventory best practices for item tracking, storage, movement, and throughput accountability. This is an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven, collaborative, detail-oriented individual with a passion for inventory control to have a direct impact on positively contributing to the St. Louis Area Foodbank's vision of a nutritionally secure Missouri and Illinois.

NOTE: This is a Tuesday through Saturday. (Saturday hours would be 7:00am to 1:00pm. Tuesday through Friday would be 7:00am to 4:00 pm) Additional hours would be required based on operational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of inventory control systems utilizing the Ceres inventory software system to effectively support the Operations, Product Acquisition, and Programs departments.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with relevant departments to support best practices for inventory movement (receiving, distribution, internal transfers, kitting etc.)
  • Research inventory discrepancies, identify causes, and collaborate with the Inventory Control Manager to resolve inventory discrepancies in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled cycle counts to ensure inbound receiving accuracy, inventory integrity and the order fulfillment process.
  • Perform regularly scheduled and ad hoc physical inventory counts as directed by the Inventory Control Manager for all USDA commodities and purchased product to support program accountabilities.
  • Support and maintain inventory tracking, documentation and reports. Will spend approximately 30 - 40% of the time at a computer workstation while the rest of the time will be spent in the warehouse. (This time may be adjusted/reduced based on the availability of a mobile workstation.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent (Community college and/or trade school graduation preferred).
  • Food Defense Certification (specifically A.I.B. or S.Q.F. certifications) a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 months experience as a reach truck operator is required
  • Computer proficiency with solid Microsoft Office Suite skills and Intermediate Excel skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate work.
  • Great organizational skills and attention to detail/accuracy required.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Working Conditions:

Work performed in the warehouse involves a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be hot and get cold during the winter. Employee will be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. This position will spend an extensive amount of time in the freezer and refrigerated cooler. (Cold temperature gear will be provided to the Inventory Control Specialist to wear when working in the freezer and cooler areas of the warehouse.) Workspace could be dusty and on occasions, can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the warehouse. Periodically, work may occur outside of the warehouse, thus being exposed to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.
