Job Title: Inventory Control Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

General Description/Position Summary

This position is responsible for managing and handling inventory, ensuring that the quantity and quality of food and related products align with the St. Louis Area Foodbank standards. You will be responsible for the management of all perpetual and par inventory locations as well as products received, stored, and issued. The Inventory Control Manager will ensure all inbound shipments are properly received, organized and entered into the inventory system. You will be responsible for leading the annual physical inventory process, conducting cycle counts, thoroughly investigating and recording all adjustments and reporting discrepancies. In all aspects, the Inventory Control Manager serves as a role model for the service culture and mission of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with operational departments to ensure a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of inventory movement (receiving, distribution, internal transfers, etc.)
  • Develop, document, implement, and monitor effective receiving and inventory policies, processes, procedures, and reporting
  • Develop quality control checks and balances for all inventory data entered including, but not limited to, coding standards, item cards, lot cards and purchased product tracking
  • Develop and maintain quality control checks and balances for all inventory movement
  • Develop and execute workflow to ensure all product receipts received into our system within 24 hours
  • Lead annual physical inventory activity
  • Perform monthly/weekly counts of all donated, purchased and government provided inventory and ensure the accuracy of floor counts with our inventory system
  • Research and resolve inventory discrepancies
  • Recommend improvements for cycle count program including an efficient and effective reconciliation process
  • Handle all product adjustments as needed within the inventory system
  • Ensure compliance, accuracy, and timeliness of inventory audits
  • Utilize First In, First Out (FIFO) methodology to properly track, monitor and control spoilage and waste with both dry and refrigerated/frozen product
  • Monitor food recalls and activate recall procedures when necessary
  • Take an active role in reinforcing safe work practices & food safety
  • Assist the Shipping Department as needed
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned


  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate Degree in a related field a plus
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience in an inventory control environment and/or distribution warehouse required
  • Skilled in the operation of standard warehouse equipment including forklift and palette riders required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate work; great organizational skills a must
  • Ability to operate a computer, such as sending and receiving electronic mail, and preparing basic memos and reports.
  • Must possess computer proficiency, ideally with experience with the Microsoft Office suite of tools (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.); at least intermediate Excel skills strongly preferred
  • Food Defense Certification a plus
  • Proficient in basic math

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check

Working Conditions

Work performed in warehouse involves a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. Workspace could be very dusty, and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building. Periodically there may be work outside and be exposed to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

May work evenings and weekends due to special events and other projects related to timely and accurate warehousing and distribution of product.
