General Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven, collaborative leader, and Product Sourcing expert to have direct impact on positively contributing to the St. Louis Area Foodbank's vision of a nutritionally secure Missouri and Illinois.

The Director of Product Sourcing and Repackaging leads the critically important Product Sourcing and Volunteer Repackaging Center operations for the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of success as a dynamic and innovative leader, possess Product Sourcing expertise, demonstrate emotional intelligence, champion collaboration and continuous improvement, be an effective communicator, and have the ability to effectively coach, mentor, and manage engaged and high-performing staff.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank has been growing steadily during the past 10 years and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025. We are seeking to dramatically accelerate our growth, impact, and influence in the communities we serve across 26 counties in the bi-state region (Illinois and Missouri).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Sourcing

  • Direct, implement, disseminate, and administer sourcing strategies, plans and objectives to ensure alignment with organizational vision and mission.
  • Cultivate new community relationships with the goal of increasing food donations.
  • Craft and implement food and non-food sourcing strategies and collaborations that will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the SLAFB and best support our partners, agencies, programs, and strategic direction.
  • Measure the effectiveness of all processes (internal and external) and facilitates the completion of all monthly and quarterly Feeding America Reports.
  • Partner with Finance to create and manage departmental budgets to support the programmatic initiatives of the organization.
  • Collaborate with key departments throughout the organization to develop and implement improvement to key work processes.
  • Provide leadership and project management for event planning initiatives regarding large food drive events (for example: Scouting for Food, Stamp Out Hunger, Taste of Elegance, and other community events).
  • Spearhead the operations and growth strategy for the Farm to Foodbank Perishable Rescue Program, working alongside local farmers markets to source fresh nutritious produce for neighbors facing nutritional insecurity.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for the continuous education and growth of supervised staff.
  • Alongside Product Sourcing Coordinator, perform retail store visits to facilitate training with stores participating in the Grocery Rescue Program.
  • Perform food donor visits in the field, as appropriate, to cultivate partnerships (manufacturers, farmers, farmers markets).
  • Delivers informational presentations regarding the St. Louis Area Foodbank to prospective donors.
  • Supervise and oversee the day-to-day activities of the Product Sourcing team.
  • Analyze data to assess successes and areas for continuous improvement and target necessary product donor accounts.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the Foodbank via external media requests when necessary.
  • Oversee the growth and success of the Retail Program and Food Drive Program.
  • Acquire new product partners, specifically those able to donate Foods to Encourage (F2E), with a focus on sourcing a variety of food and non-food items.
  • Negotiate pricing and contracts with external suppliers.

Volunteer Repackaging Center

  • Implement and administer Volunteer Repackaging Center production strategies (governmental programs, food drive repackaging, produce repackaging, special projects) to ensure necessary production outputs.
  • Manage the Volunteer Repackaging Center production schedule and communicate production needs with Volunteer Services to ensure adequate volunteer support.
  • Act as a liaison between Volunteer Repackaging Center Managers and the Program and Warehouse teams to coordinate philanthropic volunteering opportunities with key external stakeholders.
  • Partner with external stakeholders to coordinate logistics for offsite philanthropic volunteer opportunities.
  • Oversee and implement the Lead Volunteer Training Program; ensuring policies and procedures are followed by volunteers, and lending assistance where necessary to address volunteer concerns.
  • Maintain SERV Safe and AIB certification as needed to ensure knowledge of food safety standards.
  • Source supplies that support the Volunteer Repackaging Center, including equipment, corrugate, plastics, and workwear.
  • Ensure physical inventory counts for governmental programs are accurately reflected in the inventory system.
  • Provide operational support during Volunteer Repackaging Center shifts when needed. (The Volunteer Repackaging Center is open Monday - Saturday.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university OR minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in Product Sourcing, Supply Chain or Business Management is required; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel/Office Suite skills required.
  • Experience with negotiation and constructing contracts.
  • Experience successfully harnessing technology to improve efficiency a plus.
  • Excellent communication, management, and interpersonal skills. Strong relationship building and managerial experience required.
  • Proven success leading and managing a diverse, high-performing team and fostering a culture of accountability.
  • Experience in managing a diverse group of external stakeholders (for example: donors, corporate and community groups, etc.).
  • Must be able to successfully pass required pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday onsite at the St. Louis Area Foodbank facility and in the community as needed.
    • The Director of Product Sourcing and Repackaging will need to provide support to the Volunteer Repackaging Center as needed. The Volunteer Repackaging Center is open Monday - Saturday.
  • However, flexibility will be granted as appropriate.
  • Occasional weekend (Saturday/Sunday) or evening hours may be required.
  • Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.

Working Conditions in the Volunteer Repackaging Center:

Work performed in the Volunteer Repackaging Center can involves a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds and use manual pallet jacks.
