SLAFB is seeking a Director of Human Resources whose primary purpose is to provide daily management and oversight of the Human Resources function. Responsibilities include partnering with senior management and the Governance Committee with the development and implementation of human resources strategies to help drive organizational effectiveness and employee engagement to meet the vision, mission and objectives of the Foodbank.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Foster an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes ownership, quality, productivity and goal attainment.
  • Develop, recommend and ensure uniform and equitable application of policies and procedures to protect both the organization and employee interests. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  • Assist management in determining optimal staffing levels and utilization of employees within SLAFB.
  • Identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps; develop action plans for filling gaps.
  • Lead staffing strategies in support of acquiring and retaining key talent.
  • Enhance the on-boarding process for new and newly promoted employees.
  • Assist with change management practices to enable organizational effectiveness.
  • Evaluate employee engagement; Develop and administer appropriate action plans to meet desired outcomes.
  • Ensure SLAFB total rewards package remains competitive in the market. Partner with benefits broker to negotiate rates during annual benefits renewal.
  • Enhance, administer and maintain employee performance management process.
  • Assist managers with coaching and developing staff to positions of increased responsibility including creating individual development, corrective action, and performance improvement plans.
  • Develop, maintain and evaluate relationships with vendor partners.
  • Maintain the compensation system including making recommendations on salary structure, job grades, and annual market adjustments.
  • Oversee the exit interview process and analyze data to determine trends behind employee separation and determine appropriate corrective action.
  • Ensure DOT compliance. Oversee DOT-required random drug screening program and monitor MVR reports annually with Director of Operations.
  • Ensure employee personnel and benefit records are accurate and in compliance.
  • Manage employee claims, including benefit claims, workers' compensation, unemployment, EEOC, etc.
  • Investigate harassment allegations, discrimination charges, disputes and other sensitive issues.
  • Represent SLAFB at personnel-related hearings and investigations. Consult with legal counsel, as appropriate, on human resource matters.
  • Use Human Resource analytics to drive optimal results, determine areas of needed improvement.
  • Manage budget for the Human Resources department.
  • As Staff lead for the Governance Committee, ensure the board of directors are given direction, oversight, guidance and the framework to maximize their overall effectiveness. Help to develop, create and maintain corporate bylaws, governance committee guidelines and responsibilities, succession planning, new board orientation, and assessments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required; PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of previous senior level human resources management experience required. Previous supervisory experience required.

  • Flexible and courageous leader who can successfully lead both strategic and tactical human resources initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other web-based applications. Experience with HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate, timely results.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Exceptional negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Commitment to continue learning and development. Technically curious.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check, reference checks and drug screening.
