General Description/Position Summary

Position is responsible for partnering with senior managers in developing and implementing human resources strategies in support of SLAFB, specifically in the areas of change management, recruitment and hiring, benefit management, performance management, training and development, employee relations, compensation, talent management, compliance, and assisting the Vice President of Finance.

 

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Drive change management practices to enable organizational effectiveness.
  • Foster an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and goal attainment.
  • Assist management in determining optimal staffing levels and ensure the best utilization of employees within SLAFB.
  • Lead staffing strategies in support of acquiring and retaining key talent.
  • Recruit, interview and participate in hiring decisions; screen applicants, prepare job offer letters, complete and evaluate applicant background checks, complete new hire paperwork and benefit enrollment.
  • Create and conduct an on-boarding process for new employees and recently promoted employees to ensure they have the knowledge needed to be successful in their positions.
  • Oversee the compensation system including making recommendations on salary structure, job grades, and annual market adjustments.
  • Implement and administer employee benefit plans and wellness program.
  • Coordinate temporary staffing needs with established list of temp agencies; monitor quality of candidates provided and select agencies to be used accordingly.
  • Evaluate employee engagement and morale; implement appropriate action plans as needed.
  • Develop and administer employee performance management and improvement programs.
  • Train management staff in effective management, development and coaching of employees.
  • Create and coordinate training and employee development plans to meet personal, professional and organization needs of employees.
  • Identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps; develop specific programs for filling those gaps.
  • Maintain a rapport with employees; be visible and accessible.
  • Develop and maintain accurate job descriptions for all positions.
  • Update the organization chart, as needed.
  • Ensure succession plans are in place for key roles.
  • Conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind employee separation.
  • Administer DOT-required random drug screening program quarterly and monitor MVR reports annually with Logistics Manager.
  • Maintain employee personnel and benefit files; respect confidentiality of all information.
  • Maintain employee records in payroll database.
  • Recommend and develop policies for approval by senior management; implement approved programs and policies designed to protect SLAFB and employee interests.
  • Ensure uniform and equitable application of policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  • Manage employee claims, including benefit claims, workers' compensation, unemployment, EEOC, etc.
  • Investigate harassment allegations, discrimination charges, disputes and other sensitive issues.
  • Represent SLAFB at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  • Consult with legal counsel, as appropriate, on human resource matters.
  • Assist the safety committee with coordinating a company-wide safety-program.
  • Use Human Resource analytics to drive optimal results, determine areas of needed improvement and augment key decisions by senior management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree and five years of related job experience; PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Computer literate and able to understand and utilize human resource software; proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate, timely results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling and usage.
  • Professional appearance and attitude.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening.

 Special events and other projects related to this position may require evening and / or weekend work.  Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
