GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The St. Louis Area Foodbank is adding a Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving to our dynamic Philanthropy team. This position is responsible for researching, developing, and stewarding new relationships while sustaining a vibrant portfolio of funder relationships driven by outstanding grant writing, cause marketing, special campaigns/events, and other partnership activities. The ideal candidate will be energetic, ambitious, goal-oriented and creative, with a successful track record for building strong and productive relationships across corporate and foundation constituencies.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving is responsible for growing community support for St. Louis Area Foodbank programs and services through corporate, business, and foundation partnerships. Working both independently and collaboratively, this individual will be responsible for increasing corporate and foundation giving to support our collective fundraising goal. He/she/they will submit timely, well-written fundraising proposals, build relationships through cause marketing ventures, and lead special campaign/event fundraising efforts. This Director must effectively utilize data to identify and engage donors, improve existing donor relationships, and motivate staff performance. The ideal candidate must be an organized, critical thinker with the ability to implement systems and enhance processes while effectively delivering results within tight time constraints.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cultivation and Stewardship:

  • Generate new revenue and broaden the base of support for the St. Louis Area Foodbank
  • Develop, manage, and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for corporate sponsorships, including proposals and negotiations of marketing agreements
  • Research and pursue government and local corporate and foundation grant-makers for additional funding opportunities
  • Devise, maintain and implement schedule for fundraising campaign renewals, proposals, grant reports, event sponsorships, and donor relationship building
  • Accurately project, track and communicate fundraising progress towards budget goals

Foundation Grant Writing and Corporate Campaign Development:

  • Lead prospecting, writing, editing, and reporting on grants
  • Lead efforts in the development and management of strategies for corporate sponsorship solicitations and cause marketing campaigns
  • Develop and cultivate partnerships with corporations and local businesses to raise support through programmatic sponsorships, events, and/or formal grant processes
  • Grow existing cause marketing campaigns and target new prospects
  • Exhibit strong expository writing skills
  • Ability to actively listen and build strong, compelling narratives
  • Compose program appropriate budgets
  • Work closely with the Finance Department to ensure budget detail accuracy
  • Work closely with all departments (facilities, operations, partner agency services, product sourcing, programs, etc.) to build accurate grant narratives to quantify and qualify impact expectations and outcomes

Community Relations:

  • Attend networking events such as luncheons and Chamber mixers to deepen engagement with the Foodbank, often acting as key spokesperson for the SLAFB
  • Actively manage the day-to-day relationships with donors and prospects through various activities including meetings (in-person/onsite and virtual video), phone calls, letters, reports, emails, timely responses to donor inquiries and acknowledgements of gifts
  • Develop strong working relationships with program staff to understand and articulate needs and case for support

Leadership and Staff Management:

  • Directly supervise, coach, and mentor the team of Corporate and Foundation Giving Officers
  • Empower the Corporate and Foundation Giving Officers by collaborating in setting project goals, working together to establish and maintain corporate/foundation portfolios, evaluating potential funding opportunities, and establishing tone and direction of solicitation/reporting materials
  • Actively nurture and steward the professional development of direct reports
  • Proactively seek out opportunities to refine leadership skills
  • Provide thought leadership to staff, volunteers, and Board members involved in the fundraising process
  • Work collaboratively with Chief Development Officer and the Philanthropy Team to develop strategic priorities aligned with annual initiatives that require funding and resources

Other Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage internal stakeholders to pursue funding prospects that align with priorities
  • Maintain active affiliations with appropriate fundraising networks and organizations.
  • Provide content to Marketing Department for various collateral and social media articles
  • Encourage a culture of developing team members to assume positions of increased responsibility with an evolving and growing non-profit organization while creating a great organizational culture
  • Attend relevant meetings that help strengthen the Foodbank's visibility in the community
  • Collaborate with and help cultivate and maintain synergies between the Philanthropy, Marketing and Communications, and Advocacy teams
  • As appropriate, attend meetings with the Board of Directors and interface with the Board's Philanthropy and Marketing sub-committee

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of demonstrated success in institutional fundraising, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and foundation donors
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Successful track record in initiating and building relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors
  • Prior budget responsibility experience
  • Solid understanding of fund development principles & ethics
  • Demonstrated ability to grow special event and cause marketing campaign revenue
  • Excellent digital/computer skills - solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of tools and experience using data management and CRM tools such as Raiser's Edge NXT
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to tailor messaging to varying audiences
  • Strong time management skills - ability to handle interruptions, meet deadlines, maintain focus on tasks, produce accurate work and manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check

Special events and other projects related to this position may require evening and/or weekend work. Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
