The Mission of the St. Louis Area Foodbank is to build stronger communities by empowering people with food and hope. As the region's largest food distribution charity dedicated to feeding those in need, we are working to create a stronger, healthier bi-state region where no one goes to be hungry. The Summer VISTA Volunteer Center Member will assist in our repacking center where they will repack food, assist volunteers and help with reporting. Our Repacking Center helps to package food and products for distribution throughout our 26-county service area. Each month, over 1,000 volunteers assist with packing 8,000+ boxes for seniors in MO in addition to other projects.

This position requires someone who:

AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate (SA) members:

• Members serve will be paid $514 bi-weekly, which means they will earn around $2,056 for their 8-week commitment.
• Summer Associates may perform direct service activities in addition to capacity-building activities.
• After successfully completing a term of service, Summer Associates may receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,311.11 which can be used to pay for college or student loans, or an end-of-service cash stipend of $276.64.
• Term of service estimated to be 05/31/21 08/22/21. Negotiable but must serve a full 8 weeks.
• Due to the short length of this service, Summer Associates are not provided any personal or medical leave.

Goal of the Project:

The goal of the St. Louis Area Foodbank VISTA Program is help combat barriers that individuals and families may face in gaining access to fresh, seasonal, and nutritious foods in both Urban and Rural areas.

Member Activities:

1. Tasks vary depending on the needs of the Foodbank and may include sorting and packing food, checking to ensure food is safe, boxing food or personal care items, and cleaning the volunteer center after each shift
2. Assist and lead volunteers with the above projects. May include some opportunities to grow public speaking skills.
3. Compile data and complete reports as needed.
