NOTE: This position requires a 8 weeks of full time service (35 hours/week) with no time off

The Mission of the St. Louis Area Foodbank is to build a stronger bi-state region by nourishing people,
empowering communities, and transforming systems. As the region's largest food distribution charity
dedicated to feeding those in need, we are working to create a nutritionally secure Missouri and Illinois.
The Summer VISTA Product Sourcing member will work to source produce donations throughout our 26-
county region to increase the volume of locally sourced produce coming into the Foodbank and being
distributed to our neighbors. These donations may come from area farmers, growers, or farmers markets.

The VISTA member will also support our operations team in filing, reviewing schedules, and any other
needed services.

This position requires someone who:
• Is positive, upbeat and outgoaing
• Can work well with a team of people
• Can work efficiently & independently
• Is open to new ideas & welcome feedback
• Is extremely comfortable in a fast-paced setting
• Is customer service oriented and comfortable working with large groups of volunteers
• Has basis computer skills (familiar with data entry, printing, etc)
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and move easily
• Able and willing to learn how to use a pallet jack with training

AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate (SA) members:
• Members who serve will be paid $675 bi-weekly, which means they will earn
around $2,700 for their 8-week commitment.
• Summer Associates may perform direct service activities in addition to capacity-building
activities.
• After successfully completing a term of service, Summer Associates may receive a Segal
AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,459.26 which can be used to pay for college or
student loans, or an end-of-service cash stipend of about $280.
• While we may offer some flexibility, the term of service is 06/12/23 - 08/06/23.
• IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the short length of this service, Summer Associates are not
eligible for any personal or medical leave during their term of service. All members must
work full time (35 hours/week) for the full 8-week term.
• Due to the nature of the work, this position is in-person and is not eligible for hybrid
status.

Project Period: Project Period: Members serve an 8-week term through the summer. Start and
end dates are June 12 - August 6, 2023. Some flexibility may be considered for exceptional
candidates.

Goal of the Project:
The goal of the St. Louis Area Foodbank VISTA Program is to help combat barriers that individuals and
families may face in gaining access to fresh, seasonal, and nutritious foods in both Urban and Rural areas.

Objective of the Assignment: Support the Foodbank's food repackaging & sorting program.

Member Activities:
1. Support an excellent volunteer experience through monitoring and supporting volunteer
activities.
2. Help ensure positive and fun shift environment through music, engaging with volunteers and
thanking them for their service.
3. Help communicate the story of the Foodbank through producing shift impact reports.
4. Prepare for shift projects by completing data entry, printing labels, and general computer work.
5. Engage in special projects as needed.

Objective of the Assignment: Support program establishing and maintaining a safe work environment.
Member Activities:
1. Provide defined safety checks before, during and after each assigned shift.
2. Under the direction of staff, manage and/or support routine and periodic cleaning assignments;
perform cleanliness checks.
3. Coordinate volunteer groups to accomplish cleaning / organizing projects.
