The Mission of the St. Louis Area Foodbank is to build stronger communities by empowering people with food and hope. As the region's largest food distribution charity dedicated to feeding those in need, we are working to create a stronger, healthier bi-state region where no one goes to be hungry. The Summer VISTA Mobile and Summer Feeding program member will assist with food distributions done by the Foodbank and survey the neighbors we serve throughout our 26-county region. They will also assist with recruiting partners to host events and organizing logistics for each event. These Mobile distributions help combat barriers that individuals and families may face when trying to get access to fresh, seasonal, and nutritious foods in both Urban and Rural areas. In a month, we serve over 7,000 households through our mobile distributions. This includes those done by the Foodbank and our partners. The VISTA member will also support our operations team in filing, reviewing schedules, and any other needed services.

This position requires someone who:

AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate (SA) members:

• Members who serve will be paid $514 bi-weekly, which means they will earn around $2,056 for their 8-week commitment.
• Summer Associates may perform direct service activities in addition to capacity-building activities.
• After successfully completing a term of service, Summer Associates may receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,311.11 which can be used to pay for college or student loans, or an end-of-service cash stipend of $276.64.
• Term of service are estimated to be 05/30/22 – 08/21/22. Negotiable but must serve a full 8 weeks.
• Due to the short length of this service, Summer Associates are not provided any personal or medical leave.

Goal of the Project:

The goal of the St. Louis Area Foodbank VISTA Program is to help combat barriers that individuals and families may face in gaining access to fresh, seasonal, and nutritious foods in both Urban and Rural areas.

Objective of the Assignment: Assist with mobile food distributions and collecting data.

Member Activities:

1. Attend Mobile, Food Fairs, Summer Feeding, and Food on the Move distributions to assist with distributions and data collection.
2. Make follow-up phone calls to mobile participants and survey families at Summer Feeding sites. Compile data and make recommendations.

Objective of the Assignment: Assist with organizing and wrapping up distribution events.

1. Assist in recruiting partners and organizing the logistics for each event.
2. Assist our operations team with filing, reviewing schedules, and any other needed services.
