St. Louis Area Foodbank (SLAFB)

Job Title: Staff Accountant

Immediate Supervisor: Controller

Employees Supervised: None

General Description/Position Summary:

The primarily purpose of the Staff Accountant position is to advance the mission of the St. Louis Area Foodbank by providing accounting and finance support to its internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include participating with month-end close, forecasting, analysis, grant reporting, payroll, and accounts payables/receivables activities along with other projects assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs all accounting related functions surrounding government, corporate and foundation grants.
  • Ensure compliance with grant contracts and federal regulations.
  • Act as a liaison between external auditors, government agencies and Foodbank staff.
  • Participate in the month-end close and forecasting processes as directed by management (including journal entry preparation and general ledger account analysis).
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations as assigned.
  • Maintain the fixed asset schedule and record related journal entries.
  • Prepare payroll and all associated functions for submittal to third party payroll vendor and record to the general ledger.
  • Ensure compliance with 403(b) non-discrimination testing and adjust payroll accordingly.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and insurance carriers to process claims activity.
  • Ensure appropriate approvals are obtained for invoices & accurately entered in the accounting system with proper cost allocations.
  • Update the daily cash sheet and prepare bank reconciliations. Maintain the fixed asset schedule and record related journal entries.
  • Monitor and assist with the accurate processing of accounts receivable payments and adjustments as needed.
  • Assist with the accurate processing of donations received and preparation of bank deposits.
  • Monitor agency accounts receivable and collection of delinquent balances.
  • Review agency Uniform Guidance reports and follow-up with agencies as appropriate.
  • Assist with the assembly of information for external auditors.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for the 990 tax return
  • Assist the department with other responsibilities as needed.
  • Protect Foodbank and Foodbank employees by keeping all information confidential.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' Degree from an accredited university with an emphasis in Accounting required.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience required. Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Passion for the Foodbank mission and the ability to demonstrate SLAFB's Core Values: Stewardship, Teamwork, Agility and Respect
  • Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other web-based applications. Microsoft Dynamics experience and Ceres or the ability to learn required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work at special events and/or other projects that may occur in the evenings or during weekends. Meeting attendance may require overnight travel.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening.
